The Foundation's Board of Trustees, consists of six Lions members, three elected from each of the District 201C1 and 201C2 who serve three year terms.
The Foundation manages a fund initially begun and earned from the efforts of Lions members through the auspices of what was the SA Lions Channel 7 Personality Awards Quest which, from 1973 to 1998, raised over $5 million for groups and projects such as –
Camp Quality | Lions Eye Care and Research Foundation |
Canteen | Neurological Research |
Channel 7 Children’s Appeal |
Royal Flying Doctor Service |
Country Fire Service | State Emergency Service |
Cranio Facial Foundation | Women and Children’s Hospital |
Crippled Children’s Assoc’n | |
Lions Hearing Dogs |
In addition, $500,000 of the funds raised was used to establish the Lions Heart Foundation to make donations and award scholarships in cardiology research.
In 1997 it was concluded that the scope of the Heart Foundation was too restrictive and should be broadened to include all aspects of medical research and education.
Thus the name of the Foundation was changed to the Lions Medical Research Foundation and its objects broadened to the funding of and otherwise promoting research and education into the prevention, detection and cure of disease and/or injury.
Your support of your Foundation will enable it to continue and build on its contribution to health in all of its forms in the years ahead.
